Discover the Pine Walk of Port de Pollença

This famous coastal path winds its way beneath the pines, offering beautiful sea views against the backdrop of the majestic Tramuntana mountains.

This seaside walkway, lined with iconic pine trees in Puerto Pollensa (also called Port de Pollença, in Catalan), offers sweeping coastal views and invites quiet reflection and unhurried strolls. These very pines are said to have inspired none other than Agatha Christie in 1932, and they also echo through the immortal verses of Miquel Costa i Llobera, one of Mallorca’s most cherished poets. All in all, the Pine Walk is more than a promenade, it’s a place where nature, art, and history meet beside Pollensa Bay.

Pine Walk History & Famous Artists

The Pine Walk was built by wealthy families from Madrid and Palma in the early 20th century, becoming a charming seaside retreat. The walk now provides welcome shade from the sun and leads to the still-operational Military Air Base. Discover here some of its most renowned visitors.

Agatha Christie

In March 1932, Agatha Christie arrived in Mallorca. It was the final stage of a long journey that had taken her through Luxor, Cairo, and Jerusalem. The popular English writer had already spent time in the Canary Islands in February 1927. And her short story Problem at Pollensa Bay featuring Mr. Parker Pyne is not about a murder, but rather a romantic entanglement between the daughter of a guest at the fictional Hotel Pino D’Oro (the Hotel Illa d’Or, where the writer stayed) and a young man staying at the Hotel Mariposa (formerly Hotel Mar i Cel, nowadays part of the Military Air Base).

Hermen Anglada Camarasa

The Spanish painter, born in Barcelona, lived in Port de Pollença and helped popularise the area through a series of paintings depicting local scenes. With Anglada Camarasa came his disciple, the Argentine painter Tito Cittadini. Together, they founded the so-called “Escola de Pollença,” a group that later inspired several other painters. He died in Mallorca and is commemorated with a bronze bust along the Pine Walk in Port de Pollença.

Miquel Costa i Llobera

Within the realm of Catalan literature, the celebrated 19th-century ode The Pine of Formentor by native poet Miquel Costa i Llobera stands as the clearest example of how the Bay of Pollença has inspired artists, travelers, and people from around the world. Reflecting the ideal of an elevated life, Costa i Llobera’s mighty pine tree serves as a powerful symbol of human struggle — embodying resilience, constancy, and strength in the face of adversity and the forces of nature.

Mario Benedetti

The renowned Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti spent fifteen summers in the Port of Pollença, where he wrote, among others, Primavera con una esquina rota.
